November 23, 2016 (Wed./holiday) 14:00-14:30 at Dohjidai GALLERY in KYOTO.
On November 23, 2016 (Wed./holiday) in the Shu Konishi Private Exhibition –To the Flowers with No Names, Vol. 6– exhibition space of Dohjidai Gallery in Kyoto City, we will open " Fusional Space: Blossom×Sound×Form", an improvisational art performance by flower arrangement artists, a musician, and a contemporary artist who are all active in the Kyoto area.
The artist is Shu Konishi, a sculptor who has worked as a special effects make-up artist and who transforms direct casts of the human body into works of art. His original art pieces will be arranged with flowers by two flower arrangement artists and presented alongside a performance by an erhu (Chinese two-string fiddle) musician.
Flowers will be arranged in vases modeled on motifs of the human body by Kuniko Takagi and Shizuko Kitaguchi, practitioners of the Imperial Saga Style of the Daikaku-ji School. This school has its origins with Emperor Saga of the early Heian period (794–1185), who is said to have made flower arrangements from the chrysanthemums that bloom on Kikugajima Island in Osawa Pond at Daikaku-ji, a famous Kyoto temple.
Along with erhu player Yuiko Otsuji, who won the 5th Annual King of Performer in 2015, these four represent a concentration of expressiveness going beyond mere genre. Flowers, melodies, and shapes will reverberate together, conveying new dimensions that stretch beyond time and space.
